One young person killed, another injured in shootings on Peoria's south side

The young person killed in Sunday's shooting has been identified as 15-year-old Emarion L. Carpenter of Peoria, according to the Peoria County coroner. An autopsy found he suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and died instantly. This case is being investigated as a homicide and remains under investigation by the Peoria Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division. One young person was killed and another was injured in a spate of shootings overnight on Peoria's south side.

Peoria Police said there were three ShotSpotter alerts just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday, indicating that 27 rounds total had been fired in three locations: 800 block of West McBean Street, 300 block of South Merriman Street, and 1300 block of SW Phoenix Drive.

Peoria Police said they found an unresponsive juvenile male in the nearby 1200 block of SW Saint Martin Drive. The victim had apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name and age have not been released.

Police also found a second juvenile male with an apparent gunshot wound to the hand. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was expected to survive the injury.

Peoria Police are currently investigating this case. No arrests have been announced as of midmorning Sunday.
