A 22-year-old Brimfield man has died after a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon in Peoria County.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood on Sunday identified the rider as Clayton Mullens. Harwood said Mullens was pronounced dead shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the trauma center at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the single-vehicle incident in the 17000 block of Illinois Route 8 – Southport Road near Maher Road – at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Mullens had been traveling westbound and struck a tree after leaving the roadway. Harwood said Mullens suffered multiple blunt force injuries that were inconsistent with life.

Toxicology tests are pending and the accident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office. Harwood reported that Mullens was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
