Illinois State Police investigating after officers fatally shoot man allegedly wielding machete

The Illinois State Police are investigating after officers in Stark County fatally shot a man reportedly wielding a machete against authorities.

State police say officers in the multi-agency Henry County Special Operations Squad tried to execute a search warrant and make an arrest at an apartment in the 500 block of N. Olive St. in Toulon. That's about 45 minutes northwest of Peoria.

Authorities say a man at the home reportedly tried to strike police with a machete. Police opened fire. The man, whose identity hasn't yet been revealed, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

No police were injured in the incident.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office requested the Illinois State Police's assistance to investigate, as is standard whenever local officers use deadly force.

The ISP will submit the results of its investigation to the Stark County State's Attorney's Office for review once complete.

No further information was immediately available.
