The Tazewell County felony case centering around the father of the Nashville Waffle House mass shooter will continue into the new year.
Jeffrey Reinking of Morton was convicted earlier this year of illegally returning firearms to his son Travis after he spent time in behavioral health treatment. Some of those guns were later used in the 2018 shooting that left four dead and four others injured.
The elder Reinking filed a motion to reconsider. His new attorney, Michael Doubet, argues lawyer Kevin Sullivan, who represented Reinking at his May bench trial, was ineffective, and said the trial could have ended differently had Reinking received better legal representation.
But Tazewell County prosecutor Mike Holly said there was nothing wrong with Sullivan's performance, and the court should set a date for Reinking's sentencing.
Judge Chris Doscotch said he's taking the motion to reconsider under advisement before rendering an opinion. A new hearing is set for January 6 in Pekin.
