A 21-year-old Peoria man is dead after a Saturday afternoon shooting in Peoria, marking the city’s ninth homicide of 2022.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood on Sunday identified the victim as Roger Browder of Peoria. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday; how many times Browder was shot and other details remain under investigation.

Peoria Police Department officers responded to the 1500 block of North Bigelow Street, south of Richmond Avenue and a couple blocks east of Peoria High School, following a Shot Spotter alert at approximately 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Browder was found unresponsive in a parked vehicle. Despite efforts to revive him, Browder was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 1 p.m. Police said there was no ongoing threat to the community.

Officers with the police department’s Criminal Investigations Department and Crime Scene Unit are actively investigating the homicide. Last year, Peoria recorded its ninth homicide on May 26 on the way to setting a modern record of 34.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521, or anonymously through the Tip-411 app or Crime Stoppers at 309-673-9000.
