OSF HealthCare is buying Galesburg Cottage Hospital, but does not intend to offer inpatient services at the location.
In a news release Monday, OSF and Cottage Hospital announced the signing of an exclusive letter of intent for the purchase of property, medical equipment and other assets. OSF said it expects to complete the sale this spring.
Cottage Hospital suspended operations in January after being notified it would lose its Medicare and Medicaid funding.
In the announcement, OSF said its St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg “has the capacity to provide the inpatient care necessary for the area.” OSF did not specify its plans for the Cottage Hospital property.
