New NPR Shows, Better Time Slots Are Featured In New WCBU Weekend Schedule

WCBU will debut a new weekend schedule Aug. 14-15 that will make it easier to hear your favorite shows and also introduce you to two new weekly NPR programs. See the new schedule at WCBU.org/Schedule.

Joining the schedule will be NPR’s Throughline (12 p.m. Saturdays) and NPR’s Code Switch and Life Kit (1 p.m. Saturdays). Throughline dives into history to help you understand the present. Code Switch and Life Kit will tell stories about race and identity that expand your mind, and share practical ways to make your life better.

WCBU will also add another hour of Weekend Edition, which will now air from 7-10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, plus longer stretches of our handcrafted music service Highway 309.

Other weekend changes include:

  • You’ll have a second chance to hear a repeat broadcast of popular shows like This American Life, Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me, TED Radio Hour, and On The Media.
  • WCBU's Center Stage (featuring Broadway and Hollywood showtunes) will move to 7-9 p.m. Sundays. American Routes will move to 9-11 p.m. Sundays.
  • It’s Been A Minute … With Sam Sanders moves to 11 a.m. Saturdays.
  • More local news. We’ll add a third local newscast at 10:04 a.m.

The changes were guided in part by the hundreds of listeners who completed a WCBU survey in spring 2021. They ranked their favorite shows and shared their weekend listening habits. NPR also recently announced it has canceled its Saturday morning game show Ask Me Another.

The changes, which includes the elimination of less popular shows like Bullseye and Hidden Brain, also reduce our programming fees and save WCBU some money after a challenging financial year caused by the pandemic.
