One Killed, One Injured In South Peoria Shooting

One man died Monday night after a shooting in South Peoria that also sent one other man to the hospital.

Peoria police say the shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m. in the 2400 block of West Starr Avenue. One victim was located on the scene with apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital where he later died.

Officers learned a second victim with a bullet wound to his shoulder was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle. He was listed in stable condition.

The identity of the deceased victim is awaiting the conclusion of an autopsy by Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood. His death is Peoria’s 17th homicide of 2021.

Star Liquors at 2421 W. Starr was struck by gunfire in the shooting. No suspect information is currently available and the incident remains under investigation.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood has identified the deceased victim as 23-year-old Labaron Duff of Peoria.

Harwood said Duff was pronounced dead at 9:34 p.m., shortly after arriving at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Harwood said Duff suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and likely died instantly.
