Coroner IDs 2 Men Killed In Central Peoria Shooting

A Peoria Heights resident and a Georgia man have been identified as the two victims killed in an early Sunday shooting in Central Peoria.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood released the victims’ names Monday after conducting autopsies. Harwood said Rashad M. Williams, 19, of Peoria Heights, died from multiple gunshot wounds, while Josiah Hanson, 28, of McDonough, Ga., succumbed to severe internal bleeding.

Williams was found outside an apartment complex in the 900 block of West Crestwood Drive shortly after 1 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene about 90 minutes later. Harwood said he likely died instantly.

Hanson was found inside an apartment and transported to OSF St. Francis Medical Center, where he died shortly after 4 a.m. Harwood said Hanson’s autopsy shows he suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso.

The Peoria Police Department continues to investigate the incident. The deaths mark the city’s 14th and 15th homicides of 2021, surpassing the total from last year.
