McLean County health officials report 87 new confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases, as the county’s testing positivity rate bounced back up a full percentage, to 5.3%.

The new cases were found in a batch of about 1,000 test results returned overnight. Testing appears to be down significantly from last week. The average number of daily tests the week on April 19 was more than 1,400, according to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Hospitalizations remain at a record high. There are 59 county residents hospitalized with COVID complications—an increase of one patient overnight. Bloomington-Normal intensive care bed use held at 65% while overall bed capacity tightened slightly, down to 6%.

McLean County’s active caseload is at its lowest level since April 6. There are 484 people isolating at home, while an additional 142 are now considered recovered.

Just over 117,000 doses of the COVID vaccine have been administered in McLean County—up about 700 doses in the past day. That’s about half of the average of 1,400 doses administered daily in the county in the past week, according to IDPH figures.

To date, 217 McLean County residents have died from COVID, while 17,349 have tested positive for the virus.
