Construction Worker Killed on Tri-State Tollway

ROSEMONT - The driver of a car struck and killed a construction worker on a suburban Chicago interstate.

61-year-old Frank Caputo was hit Friday evening while working on the Tri-State Tollway near Rosemont.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office say the Bartlett man died after he was taken to a nearby hospital.

Illinois State Police say the driver crossed into an area that was closed for construction before striking Caputo and crashing into an unoccupied construction van. The driver was treated for minor injuries.

Illinois Tollway spokesman Dan Rozek said the agency offers its deepest sympathies to Caputo's family, friends and co-workers.

He said the accident tragically emphasizes the need for drivers to slow down in work zones.
