Semi Crashes Into Suburban Chicago Apartment Building

Creative Commons

LANSING - A semi-trailer slammed into a suburban Chicago apartment building, leading to a nearly three-hour effort to free the driver from the wreckage.

The semi crossed the oncoming traffic lanes about 5 a.m. Tuesday in the southern suburb of Lansing and drove through a grass strip along the street before running into the two-story building. The crash left the semi's cab wedged inside the building and knocked off much of the brick facade.

Firefighters carried the driver into an ambulance, which took him to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Chicago television stations reported that one building resident was taken to a hospital, but information wasn't immediately available on the severity of that person's injuries.
