State Seeks Proposals For Redeveloping Eagle Creek Resort

There’s a new call to re-develop the state-owned Eagle Creek Resort on Lake Shelbyville. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources issued a Request for Proposals from state-registered developers. They have until near the end of April to respond.

State Representative Brad Halbrook represents the area, and says the resort site has a lot of  potential.

“We’re hopeful that a developer will find all the amenities that the lake has to offer, with boating, fishing, camping, the small-town atmosphere of Shelby and Moultrie Counties, we’re excited about the prospects there.” Halbrook says.

Eagle Creek Resort closed nine years ago, due to mold and financial problems. The adjacent golf course is open. The last developer that tried to reopen the resort gave up in 2014.

In 2016, a state-commissioned engineer’s assessment said fixing Eagle Creek Resort’s mold problems would cost too much, and recommended building anew.
