FEMA Will Assess Illinois Flood Damage Next Week

Next week, the Federal Emergency Management Agency will assess flood damage in three Illinois counties. Severe weather struck Iroquois, Kankakee and Vermilion counties in late February.

Governor Bruce Rauner issued a disaster proclamation on February 23rd - and submitted a request for support from FEMA.

Ted Fisher is the local Emergency Management Agency director in Vermilion county. He says two low-income residential areas with mobile homes were hit particularly hard.

“There was several homes that had water above the first level. They had significant damage to the contents, the structure itself, and the foundation.”

Fisher will be working with FEMA during next week’s assessment and is hopeful residents will get the assistance they need.

He also plans to work with FEMA on mitigation efforts - so that residents can avoid flood damage in future severe weather events.
