Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner And Southern Illinois Lawmakers Visited Com-Pac International In Carbondale On Thursday February 1st, 2018.

At a stop in Carbondale on Thursday, Illinois Republican  Governor Bruce  Rauner repeated his call for lower property taxes and a lower state income tax., in order to attract more businesses.   Speaking to reporters at Com-Pac, a longtime plastics manufacturing company located in Carbondale's Industrial park,  Rauner  said his goal is to get the state's Income tax back down to three percent.  It won't be done immediately, the  Governor said, but he would like to see the tax rate lowered over the next several years.  Democratic Speaker of the House, Mike Madigan said, through his spokesman Steve Brown, that everybody is on board for lower taxes, but the wrinkle comes in how to pay for an income tax cut.  When cutting programs, Madigan says care has to be taken when considering cuts for programs and services that are required by state law.  These programs include which support the health care industry, and K through 12 education.
