New State Laws Allows for Easier Voting Registration

While a new Illinois law allows for easier voter registration, potential voters should still double-check their status.

Champaign County Clerk Gordy Hulten says when Illinois residents renew their driver’s license or update their information at any state agency, a new state law directs that agency to automatically register that person to vote, or update their voter registration records.

“That data is sent to the State Board of Elections, the State Board of Elections then sorts it by jurisdiction, " Hulten said.

Hulten says voters should always double check their registration status before a primary or general election.
