U of I Lends Helping Hand in Opioid Epidemic

Opioid addiction is a growing problem in Illinois. And people have the chance to learn more during a free webinar on Thursday.

The University of Illinois Extension is hosting the webinar by Heidi Clark, Division Chief of Health Data Policy at the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Clark says opioid addiction can strike anyone, no matter their station in life. She adds that one of the best ways to combat opioid addiction is by getting rid of its stigma.

“They, a lot of times, have shame associated with that and are embarrassed to seek treatment," she said. "But, treatment is the best way to overcome opioid use disorder."

Clark’s webinar will include information on how local law enforcement, courts, health care providers and social service workers can help reduce opioid addiction.

The webinar runs from Noon until 1 p.m. on Thursday. You can log on to the U of I Extension website to register at no charge.
