PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - The airport in Peoria is set to receive nearly $2 million in federal money to pay for a runway lighting rehabilitation project.
The money will let the airport do maintenance on the lights or replace the lights without having to close a runway.
Gen. Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport director Gene Olson says the money will be used to install "a nicer, newer, easier-to-maintain lighting system for the runway edge lights."
Olson says the project is to begin May 1 and last about six months.
U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth say the money announced Tuesday comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Airport Improvement Program.
