Kirk, Duckworth Face Off In First Debate

Mark Kirk and Tammy Duckworth faced off in their first debate today. One key point of contention between the U.S. Senate candidates was how many more of those debates they’ll be doing. Kirk says he’ll do four debates, including today’s midday meeting at the Tribune’s editorial board.

Duckworth has listed five debates or forums she’d appear at. But so far there’s only one more joint appearance on their schedules.

The two candidates also criticized their own political party’s nominees for president. Democratic congresswoman Tammy Duckworth told the Chicago Tribune editorial board that she has concerns about Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

And incumbent Republican Senator Mark Kirk says it’s embarrassing if Donald Trump didn’t pay federal taxes. Kirk says he plans to write-in former CIA Director David Petraeus for his pick for president.
