Police Worry About Health of Missing Illinois Teen, Newborn

Facebook/Madison County Sheriff's Office

Investigators who believe a missing teenager and her newborn were kidnapped by the teen's stepfather have released new details that heighten concerns about the baby and mother's health.  The Madison County Sheriff's Office says the stepfather is an outdoorsman and left the area equipped with tents, suggesting they are living in poor conditions.

Police also say the teen suffers from a congenital heart condition and was still under a doctor's care after having a cesarean section delivery.

Madison County Sheriff's Department Capt. Mike Dixon says police still don't have any leads in the case of 13-year-old Katherine E. Derleth and her three-week-old son Christopher R. Derleth.

The two were reported missing Sunday from a rural Madison County foster home. Police are charging 39-year-old Christopher M. Derleth with child abduction and aggravated kidnapping.
