New Details Emerge About Sandack's Resignation

A former Illinois state lawmaker says he was the victim of an international crime ring - and took their bait “hook, line, and sinker.”

Ron Sandack resigned from Republican leadership in Springfield earlier this year.

In July, Sandack reported to the Downers Grove police he was lured into inappropriate online conversations. Sandack told police he exchanged messages with a new Facebook friend, and then used the video chat program Skype with a woman who appeared to be in her 20s. Then demands were made that he wire money to the Philippines.

He sent money - but went to police after further demands. Many details are redacted from the police report.

In a statement, Sandack says, “Poor decisions on my part enabled me to be a victim.” And he says, “I’m human. I made a mistake for which I am remorseful and ashamed.”
