Non-Profit Urges Governors to Resolve 400K Rape Kit Backlog

endthebacklog.org

A Chicago non-profit dedicated to getting rape kits tested is sending sample kits out Mon. to every governor in the country.

Julie Smolyansky describes herself as a survivor of sexual assault.

She and her husband co-founded the non-profit Test 400K to draw attention to this county’s estimated 400,000 untested rape kits.

"It’s the biggest scandal that is happening in the United States with investigations around sexual assault over the last thirty years in every single state and every city," Smolyansky said.

Today, Test 400 K plans to send rape kits to every U.S. governor.

"I do hope that they have sort of a visceral reaction like so many of us who have seen them," Smolyansky said.

She wants governors to sign a pledge to push testing of all new rape kits within 30 days.
