Rauner will skip GOP convention next week

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says he’ll spend this week taking action on legislation….

instead of spending the week trying to unify the Illinois Republican Party behind Donald Trump.

Rauner has refused to talk about Donald Trump, despite being asked repeatedly by reporters to weigh in on the campaign. The most Rauner has talked about any candidate came during his speech to the Illinois Republican Party in May. And instead of asking the party to unify behind Trump - who Rauner didn’t mention by name in the speech - Rauner asked the party to unify against Hillary Clinton.

RAUNER: No way Hillary’s getting in the White House. No way. No way.

Rauner often refers to himself as the head of the Illinois Republican Party - and one Donald Trump delegate from Illinois said it’s a “slap in the face” that Rauner is skipping the convention.
