Dental care grants go to 12 Illinois health centers

A dozen health centers in Illinois have been awarded federal funding to broaden access to dental care.  Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell announced Thursday nearly $4.4 million in support for new dentists, dental hygienists, assistants, aides and technicians at 12 Illinois health centers.

Among the organizations receiving the grants are Lawndale Christian Health Center in Chicago, Southern Illinois Health Care Foundation in Sauget and Rural Health Inc. in Anna. Other grant-winning health centers are located in Aurora, Elgin, Springfield and Carbondale.

Nationwide, the grants total nearly $156 million in funding to support 420 health centers in 47 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
