MANTENO, Ill.  - Residents of one Illinois community are celebrating a favorite mode of transportation: the golf cart.

The village of Manteno is holding its first golf cart parade on Friday.

Sarah Marion is event planner for the village located about 50 miles south of Chicago. She says golf carts "have become part of Manteno's lifestyle," with about 180 people registering carts each year.

Residents use the carts to get around or just for fun.
Malissa Merlo says she takes her family's cart to pick up her kids from school or take them for ice cream.

Sarah Mickler plans to decorate her family's cart in a Hawaiian theme for the parade. She says her kids "love being strapped in and riding around town."
