Durkin willing to support Trump in general election

The top Republican in the Illinois State House of Representatives says he will support the Republican nominee for President, even if it’s Donald Trump.

Minority Leader Jim Durkin says the Republican party needs a strong leader, and expects Illinois to play a central role in the Presidential election.

Clearly Trump has some momentum but the fact is when you have people stepping out, dropping out of the race, it’s going to move somebody’s numbers. And you’re going to continue to have that for the next month and a half. So I predict that we’ll see Illinois in play by the time we get to the March primary.

Durkin says it’s still too early to predict how the campaign for President will affect local races in Illinois.

The state’s primary is March 15th.
