BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - Bloomington officials are considering a five-year $50 million streets-and-sewer overhaul.
Up to $30 million would be spent on resurfacing streets.
None of the work would begin until the 2018 budget year, but City Manager David Hales will present documents authorizing borrowing the money within two months.
Mayor Tari Renner says the city has no higher infrastructure priority. He says a $10 million program in 2013 helped but not enough.
To repay the new loan, the city would use part of the 1 percent city portion of the sales tax.
Officials say the city must also consider up to $30 million in additional funding for a new fire station and public works operations center.
