Rauner has until Sunday to reopen State Museums

Time is running out for Gov. Bruce Rauner to act on a plan that would reopen the Illinois State Museum System.

The museum based in Springfield, which has branches in other parts of the state, closed to the public last fall.  The Governor ordered the shutdown and called it a budget move.

But a lawsuit kept union employees on the job.  Museum board Chairman Guerry Suggs says he would like to see it educating visitors about Illinois' history again.

"The governor has three options: he can sign the bill, he can veto the bill or he can do nothing, in which case it becomes law.  So we're very hopeful it will become law, but what the process is through the governor's office, I really do not know."

The governor has until this Sunday to take action. A spokeswoman for Governor Rauner did not reply to a request for comment.
