Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle says county programs will be cut and jobs will be lost if the State of Illinois doesn’t come up with a budget. Illinois Public Radio’s Tony Arnold reports.
Preckwinkle’s administration says the state already owes Cook County government about 70 million dollars. And by the end of the year - it’ll be 300 million. She says without state money - 46 county employees will be laid off…
And programs like those that help inmates after they leave prison will dry up. Those are designed to prevent people from committing another crime.
PRECKWINKLE: My experience with the governor is disheartening.
Preckwinkle has been highly critical of Republican Governor Bruce Rauner for insisting lawmakers pass term limits and collective bargaining limitations - before a budget. Likewise- Rauner has criticized Preckwinkle - for raising the county sales tax and not agreeing with his agenda.
