Disgraced Illinois cop's family bank accounts remain frozen

Bank accounts belonging to the widow of a northern Illinois police officer who authorities say killed himself after embezzling from a youth program will remain frozen until Feb. 2.

The attorneys for MelodieGliniewicz agreed to let prosecutors extend the freeze on seven bank accounts pending an investigation.

Melodie Gliniewicz wants a court order overturned that freezes several of her family's personal accounts. She has received access to about $4,200 in savings and $33,500 from a paycheck and donations received after her husband's death.

Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz died Sept. 1. Authorities claim he staged his suicide to look like a homicide because he feared discovery of the embezzlement.

No one has been charged in connection with Gliniewicz's alleged embezzlement.
