SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Students at the University of Illinois Springfield are collecting clothing to donate to refugees fleeing war-torn Syria.
Groups including the Muslim Student Organization and the International Student Association have already filled a couple dozen garbage bags full of donated clothing to give to Syrians displaced by the war.
The drive was the idea of Asad Sohail, a graduate student and president of the Muslim student group. He learned there already was a program in which students donate clothing to charities before they go home at the end of the spring semester, and he thought students would be willing to do the same thing before their winter break.
The clothing will go to refugees who have fled to Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan.
