Chicago aldermen hold hearing on police shooting of teen

Chicago aldermen are holding a hearing on the police-involved fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald with an agenda that features a resolution calling for a special prosecutor.

The meeting is for the human relations and public safety committees. It was called amid fallout from the shooting of the black teenager by white police officer Jason Van Dyke. Squad car footage of the 2014 shooting was released last month.

Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez charged Van Dyke with murder, but her office is under scrutiny for the timing. The charges were announced hours before the video's release and over a year after the shooting.

Aldermen don't have the power to implement a special prosecutor, making their call symbolic.
