The Illinois village where a police officer staged his suicide to look like a homicide has disciplined three other officers for a jailhouse altercation after finding "superficial" oversight by the police chief.
Fox Lake officials were reviewing the incident when Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz killed himself in September, but say it was unrelated.
Cameras recorded the officers roughing up a drunken inmate in December 2014. Then-Police Chief Michael Behan disciplined one officer. He retired after a new village administrator began a review. The officers received suspensions ranging from 10 to 30 days.
Gliniewicz embezzled thousands of dollars from the village's Police Explorer program and was accused of other misconduct under lax village leadership. Gliniewicz's death led to a months long manhunt until investigators determined he had killed himself.
