Illinois chosen for National Guard cybersecurity squadron

A new cyber-security squadron will be headquartered with the Illinois National Guard.  The 39-person unit will be based in Springfield with Illinois team members also in Bloomington and Chicago.

It makes Illinois among seven states with Army Guard Cyber Protection Teams installed by the Department of Defense. Two squadrons joined Scott Air Force Base in southern Illinois last year.  The Illinois team will work with the Wisconsin National Guard.

Major General Richard Hayes Jr. is adjutant general of the Illinois National Guard. He says the new team will give the guard assets to defend against cyber-attacks regardless of where they originate.
