Gov. Bruce Rauner's administration will find a new director for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum instead of hiring an outside search firm.
Administration officials plan to do the job in-house by consulting experts and communicating with candidates.
Rauner spokeswoman Catherine Kelly says a new director will be hired as soon as a "qualified and appropriate candidate" is identified.
Director Eileen Mackevich resigned last month, a move following disagreements with the head of the agency which oversees the museum. Mackevich wanted the institution to be independent. She's said she resigned because Rauner had a different vision for museum management.
This month, the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency dismissed director Amy Martin with Rauner appointees on the board voting to replace her.
