Billboards on wheels: campaign rallying to restore funding for child and senior services

SEIU Healthcare Illinois Indiana

The Service Employees International Union is taking its campaign to reverse cuts to services for children and seniors to the road, literally.

The SEIU is deploying trucks hauling billboard signs printed with Governor Bruce Rauner’s face and the hashtag “dangerous-cuts” through the weekend. SEIU member and child care worker Annette Edwards says the goal is to raise awareness about the upcoming vote to reverse the cuts:

“And we want to get the community to see this is what Governor Rauner is doing, he is holding us hostage," Edwards said. "We need to get this childcare reinstated.”

Senate Bill 570 is due for its third house vote on November 10. The measure to restore funding to the state Child Care Assistance Program and elderly services failed to pass last month by one vote.
