Jackson says urban reinvestment and better policing needed

Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson says President Barack Obama gave a sound address on policing before the International Association of Chiefs of Police. However, Jackson says there is also a need for urban reinvestment and job creation.

In his speech in Chicago, Obama noted police can't be expected to contain problems society refuses to solve. He said society wrongly expects police to control societal ills stemming from unemployment, poor education, inadequate drug treatment programs and lenient gun laws.

The head of Chicago-based Rainbow/PUSH Coalition noted that police officers are in a very difficult position.  Adding they need community support and adequate resources.

However, Jackson added the departments of Labor, Commerce and Urban Development also need more funding to promote, job training, job creation and the development of adequate housing.
