DeKalb police program collects prescription drugs

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) - DeKalb police say the department's prescription drug take-back programs have collected nearly 450 pounds of pills this year. The department collected more than 225 pounds of medication at a single-day event in September. The number is in addition to what's been dropped off in collection boxes in the lobby of the police department. The idea of the programs is to prevent the misuse and abuse of prescription medications. Officials say that rates of prescription drug abuse in the nation are "alarmingly high."
