CHICAGO - The Illinois State Water Survey says last month was the ninth warmest September on record for Illinois. The research body says the average statewide temperature in September was 70.2 degrees. That's 4 degrees higher than average. The warmest September on record for Illinois came in 1933. The average temperature was 72.2 degrees. The Survey is also reporting statewide average precipitation for September was slightly more than 3.4 inches, 0.19 inches above average. The Illinois State Water Survey is located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a division of the Prairie Research Institute.
