Mitsubishi Workers canceled the strike authorization vote scheduled for today. A post the UAW 2488 Facebook feed says, “due to late bargaining advancements, the strike vote scheduled has been suspended to a later date.”
The statement goes on to says they have a few items to finish up today/ Thursday, but the fully believe they will have an agreement to present to the Membership on Sunday.
The negotiations have been ongoing in spite of plans to end production in the plant in Late November and to close the facility next spring.
The company and union have extended the existing contract twice, once for more than a month and more recently for a couple days. The pact sunsets today.
A task force in Normal is trying to help the company find a buyer for the plant as Mitsubishi sends production of the Outlander Sport overseas.
The plant employs 1,200 people.
