Man gets 24 years in 'horrific' battering of 7-week-old boy

A judge sentenced a Granite City man to 24 years in prison for abusing a 7-week-old boy so severely that he broke the child's skull and several ribs.

21-year-old Kamryn Kerr was sentenced today in Edwardsville.  A jury convicted Kerr in January.   Madison County Circuit Judge Kyle Napp calls the case "horrific."

Kerr says he's sorry about his part in a "very unfortunate and sad case involving a child."  The child now is in foster care and reportedly is doing well.

The child's mother, 20-year-old Ashlee Wethington, also is charged. She has pleaded not guilty, and she is in custody while her case is pending.

Kerr and Wethington were arrested in September of 2014 after the injured baby was brought to a hospital.
