Cook County prosecutor forced out for alleged perjury

A Cook County prosecutor has been fired for allegedly lying in a case involving the wounding of a Chicago police officer.

The prosecutor, Joseph Lattanzio, testified falsely last month in the case of a man charged with shooting Officer Del Pearson in 2012. Authorities say Lattanzio's testimony raises the possibility the case against Paris Sadler could be tossed out.

The suspect's mother made a secret 30-minute audio recording of her interview with prosecutors a day after Officer Del Pearson was seriously wounded.

Lattanzio testified he took only one statement from the mother and did not make any corrections to the statement she signed. The mother contends corrections were made.

Lattanzio's lawyer, David O'Connor, blamed Lattanzio's faulty memory for his testimony.
