A day after announcing a decline in enrollment for the fall semester, SIU-Carbondale received some good news.
The university made one of the largest leaps in the 2016 National Universities rankings according to U.S. News and World Report.
SIU-C moved up from a tie at Number 189 to a tie at Number 153, a difference of 36 spots.
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is the highest ranked public university in the state. The system's flagship campus is tied for 41st. It's the only Illinois public school in the top 100.
