Custody battle focuses on Illinois mom's role in 2003 deaths

A custody battle involving an Illinois woman who's seeking the return of her three children is focusing on the 2003 drowning deaths of her three older children.

A hearing in juvenile court began last week and much of the testimony was a reprise of Amanda Hamm's 2006 murder trial.

Prosecutors argue that Hamm, who's now known as Amanda Ware, has continued to make poor decisions that could put the lives of her surviving children at risk.

Assistant State's Attorney Joan Pernecke said last week in court that she has a pattern of choosing abusive relationships.

The hearing, which is meant to determine whether the children were abused or neglected, is set to continue Thursday.
