Escaped San Diego prisoner sought in Illinois

Authorities are hunting for a convicted robber who escaped at an Illinois rest stop as he was heading back to prison in San Diego.

A private company was driving 35-year-old Joshua Drinnon back from a court hearing in Tennessee on Wednesday evening when he managed to get out of his restraints.  He then scaled a fence and ran into a cornfield at an Interstate 80 rest stop outside of Princeton.

An air and ground search involving about 100 people and search dogs is under way.

Drinnon is serving a 17-year sentence for robbery at the Richard J. Donovan state prison in San Diego. He's scheduled for parole in 2025 but is facing an additional six years for aggravated robbery in Tennessee.
