Lawyer acquitted of coaching lies

A high-profile Chicago attorney acquitted at a federal bench trial of instructing clients and witnesses to lie says his win is a win for the entire profession.

Beau Brindley spoke after a judge in Chicago Monday acquitted him of all 19 counts. A conviction on any one count could have sent him to prison for years.

The 37-year-old told reporters the verdict was "a victory for all criminal defense attorneys."

Some Chicago lawyers had worried Brindley's prosecution could have a chilling effect, leading other lawyers to back off zealous defenses of clients.
