Rauner on union-strike veto: 'Let me do my job'

Gov. Bruce Rauner asks lawmakers to "let me do my job" and continue negotiating.

He sent a memo asking them not to overturn his dismissal of legislation that would send labor-union contract decisions to an unelected arbitrator. Rauner promises he will not lock out employees or cut salaries.

The state's contract with members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees expired June 30.

The Senate is expected to vote to override his veto of a measure that would ban a union strike or a government lockout in the event of an impasse.
