Cullerton: Senate will consider override vetoes this week

CHICAGO (AP) - Senate President John Cullerton says his chamber will consider overriding some of Gov. Bruce Rauner's vetoes this week, including one blocking public-employee strikes and management lockouts.

Cullerton said Tuesday that senators will discuss it in caucus on Wednesday. The measure Rauner rejected would send contract-negotiation impasses to binding arbitration.

A House override will be far more difficult, but House Speaker Michael Madigan's spokesman has said representatives will consider it.

Cullerton testified Tuesday before a House panel in favor of legislation his chamber approved that freezes property taxes, revamps school funding and offers pension relief for Chicago schools.

Rauner on Monday proposed a more wide-ranging plan that included local control of collective bargaining.
Cullerton called Rauner's bill "unpassable" and says the Senate bill is a compromise.
