State Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, is sponsoring a bill that keeps working families from losing child care assistance.
The Peoria Democrat’s measure challenges Governor Bruce Rauner’s recent changes to the Child Care Assistance Program.
On July 1, Rauner decreased eligibility for CCAP and increased the cost of copays. That translates to about 90 percent of the families who previously received benefits would no longer be eligible.
Gordon-Booth’s bill would prevent the Department of Human Services from making changes to CCAP without legislative input.
