Moment of silence held for Decatur mayor

The Illinois House Tuesday held a moment of silence in honor of Decatur Mayor Mike McElroy.

He recently died in a car crash, while driving himself to the hospital for a medical emergency. McElroy was 63.
Democratic Representative Sue Scherer, who is from Decatur, led the reflection.

"It's a great loss for our community right now, and he's done a lot working with me ... he was always been there to do his part, and he's done a lot to help our community raise out from the harsh unemployment that we've had in Decatur."

McElroy who was known as "Tuna", served as mayor since 2009.   His 20-12 bid to unseat Democratic State Senator Andy Manar failed.
